About The Archeio
The Archeio — from the Greek for an archive or record office — is a small library of free, fast utility tools for students, writers and developers.
How the tools work
Every tool runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, so the tools are private by design and keep working if your connection drops after the page has loaded. There are no accounts and no usage limits.
How we count
- Words: any run of characters between spaces or line breaks that contains at least one letter, number or emoji. Hyphenated words and contractions count once; a lone dash or bullet does not count. For languages written without spaces, such as Chinese, Japanese and Thai, words are found with your browser's built-in language rules.
- Characters: what you see as one character counts as one, so an emoji or an accented letter is a single character.
- Reading time: 238 words per minute, the average silent reading speed for non-fiction in Marc Brysbaert's 2019 meta-analysis of 190 reading studies. Speaking time: 130 words per minute. Both can be changed on the reading and speaking time pages.
- Platform limits: character limits for social platforms change from time to time. We check them periodically; if you spot one that is out of date, please let us know.
