What is Sentence case?
Sentence case capitalises only the first letter of the first word in a sentence (and any proper nouns). All other words remain lowercase. It mirrors how we naturally write English prose.
Examples
| Original | Sentence case |
|---|---|
| THE QUICK BROWN FOX | The quick brown fox |
| HELLO WORLD. HOW ARE YOU? | Hello world. How are you? |
| title case Is Mixed Up | Title case is mixed up |
Common use cases: correcting text that was accidentally typed in ALL CAPS, standardising copied text from multiple sources, fixing inconsistent capitalisation in headings or form entries.
Frequently asked questions
This converter applies basic Sentence case rules: it capitalises the first word of each sentence and lowercases everything else. It doesn't have a dictionary of proper nouns, so names like 'london' or 'microsoft' will remain lowercase. You'll need to manually capitalise proper nouns after conversion.
Use Sentence case for body text, UI copy, button labels, captions, and most headings in digital products. Use Title Case for book/film/article titles, formal document headings, and branded product names. Many style guides (including Google's Material Design and Apple's Human Interface Guidelines) recommend Sentence case for most UI text.
