Percentage Increase Calculator
Find the percentage increase between two numbers.
How to calculate percentage increase
Increase % = ((New Value − Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100
Example: Price goes from $80 to $100. Increase = ((100 − 80) ÷ 80) × 100 = 25%
Enter the original value in "From" and the new higher value in "To". If the result is negative, the value has decreased rather than increased — use the Percentage Decrease Calculator for that.
Common percentage increase examples
| From | To | Increase |
|---|---|---|
| $50 → $55 | +$5 | 10% |
| $80 → $100 | +$20 | 25% |
| 1,000 → 1,500 | +500 | 50% |
| 200 → 300 | +100 | 50% |
| $65,000 → $71,500 | +$6,500 | 10% |
Important: Always divide by the original (old) value, not the new one. A common mistake is dividing by the larger number, which gives a different result.
Frequently asked questions
((New Value − Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100. The result is positive for an increase and negative for a decrease.
Multiply the number by 1.20. For example, a 20% increase on $150: 150 × 1.20 = $180. Or use Calculator 5 (Add a percentage) on the main calculator page.
